College Planning Timeline
NAHS Juniors:
Welcome to the College Bound Juniors information page
Below you will find a suggested timeline in order to keep you on track throughout the college application process. Please see your Guidance Counselor if you have any questions.

January 2025
- College Bound Junior Night
- Resume Building (Participate in clubs, activities, sports, job, community service)
- Ensure both student and parent are registered in Naviance
February - April 2025
- Register for SAT/ACT if desired and required (NA is a test site for March test)
- Group meetings at school with juniors to go over transcripts, review testing dates, and Naviance
- Begin visiting college campuses
- Juniors meet individually with counselors to review the application process, college list, etc.
- Attend College Fairs (virtual or in person)
May - June 2025
- Ask teachers for letters of recommendation
- Take SAT/ACT tests
- Narrow down college list- continue to visit campuses
July - August 2025
- Create Common Application Account and work on application
- Complete Guidance Recommendation Form
- Draft essay for applications
- Find out if and how your top schools conduct interviews
- Continue visiting college campuses
- For Div. I/II Athletes: Register on the NCAA Clearinghouse
September 2025
- Seniors will meet with counselors in groups within the first month of school to review transcript and finalized GPA
- Finalize college list
- Confirm teacher recommendations
- Finalize college essay(s)
- Attend College Rep Visits at NAHS
- Attend College Fairs
- Schedule college interviews
- Continue visiting college campuses
October 2025
- Hand in Transcript Release Form if you are applying Early (10/1 for 11/1 deadline)
- Take SAT/ACT if desired and required
- Submit SAT/ACT scores to colleges
- Complete FAFSA and CSS Profile (school depending)
- Finalize essay(s)
- Complete applications
- Attend College Rep Visits at NAHS
- Schedule college interviews
November 2025
- Submit Early Action applications (11/1, 11/15, and Rolling)
December 2025 - March 2026
- Submit Regular Decision and Rolling applications
- Receive Early application decisions and financial aid packages
- Apply for NAHS based scholarships (see Guidance newsletters for information)
April 2026
- Attend Accepted Students Days at your selected College/University
May 1, 2o26
- Submit deposit!

Navigating Naviance
Navigating Naviance
❏ Make sure you can sign into your Naviance Account.
❏ If not, please email your guidance counselor for your login information.
❏ Search and build list of colleges in Naviance
❏ The Super Match search is found under Colleges tab → Find Your Fit
❏ Add colleges to Naviance “Colleges I’m Thinking About”
❏ Use the Compare Me button on the Colleges I’m Thinking About page to spot check your list and make sure you have Reach, Target and Likely Schools.
❏ Visit Colleges Virtually and in person and attend Virtual College Fairs.
❏ Ask teachers to write a recommendation (most schools will want two teachers) Please ask in person if possible. Each teacher may have their own form for you to fill out.
❏ If you need a Guidance Counselor recommendation please fill out the Guidance Recommendation form in Naviance
❏ Click About Me→My Surveys→Surveys Not Started→Guidance Recommendation Form
❏ Start taking a look at the Common Application Essay Prompts, and start thinking about essay topics. https://www.commonapp.org/apply/essay-prompts
